Canadian Experience Class for Express Entry to Canada

Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a program designed for applicants who possess Canadian work experience within 3 years of their application date and want to become permanent residents.

Canadian Experience Class Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the CEC Program, you must meet specific eligibility requirements.

  • You must meet the English and/or French language levels based on the occupation you are applying with.
  • You must possess at least 1 year of work experience which must have been completed in Canada. The work experience must provide proof of your skills to perform the job in which you are applying for. The work experience must have been completed on a full-time basis or through part-time employment with equal amounts of time invested. The work experience must also have been completed within the previous 3 years before your application.
  • All work experience claimed for CEC consideration must meet the skilled work experience categorized by the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC) System.
  • There are no educational requirements for the CEC Program. However, to increase your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply through the Express Entry System, you can provide proof of your completion of secondary or post-secondary education. If your education was outside Canada, you must provide an Educational Credential Assessment ECA, from a qualified organization in Canada.

Canadian Experience Class Process

The CEC Program process begins when you complete an Express Entry profile online. You are awarded points through the Express Entry System for factors including your age, language testing skills, and work experience.

The more points you achieve, the higher your profile will be ranked. Those that are within the top 10 percent of the Express Entry System are often sent an Invitation to Apply (ITA). The ITA is time sensitive. You will be provided with a date in which you must submit all documents. If you fail to meet the deadline, your application could be denied.
